About Berry Rutjes
‘I haven’t got a head for hats.’ That is a myth. The art is knowing which hat suits you: your face and, above all, your personality. A fabulous fedora, a Victorian riding hat, a pillbox, a fascinator, a flamboyant floppy hat, an asymmetric shape… What you need is expert advice. And I would love to give it to you.
After my fashion training in The Hague, I attended the London College of Fashion where I specialised in the traditional, artisan techniques of millinery (hat making). And in 1990 I established my own milliner’s shop: Berry Rutjes Jr. Hatdesign. This is where I design and make hats, including elegant hats for special occasions such as:
- a garden party
- a day at the races
- an elegant afternoon tea
But I make hats for everyday use too, including a collection of cheerful rain hats. I design hats for all kinds of women, from a ‘Prinsjesdag’ hat for Queen Máxima to a fascinator for a sweet student. And every time, it is a joy to see a happy woman leave the salon with her hat (and beautiful hatbox!). Everything comes together in a hat: creativity, craftsmanship and looks.
From wednesday till saturday you are welcome from 11.00 till 17.00 pm and on sunday from 12.00 till 17.00 pm in my Salon Royal, Noordeinde 182 The Hague.
Make an appointment
A visit to the salon of Berry Rutjes Jr. Hatdesign is by appointment only. Together, we will take the time to try out different models. A part of the collection is in stock, but generally I will make your hat to order, with the perfect fit. Any ideas you may have about colour or material are a welcome challenge.
Of course, I am more than happy to give you advice on the perfect hat for you, but you can also order directly via my webshop.
